BH Horticulture is a family owned enterprise in the Bay of Plenty producing kiwifruit plants and shelter trees for the kiwifruit industry. They propogate bruno and bounty rootstock and also graft G3 and Haywood plants. The owner Bart Hofstee has been in the industry for 30 years and when he was working for Hort Research was a member of the team that breed G3 which is the popular gold kiwifruit that is performing well. His knowledge of plants in the kiwifruit industry is well sort after by orchardists and he enjoys passing this on to future horticulturists. The business aims to be as environmentally responsible as possible, using techniques such as predator mites instead of spraying. They also have a hectare of late season blueberries supplying both the local and export markets. Based just outside Te Puke this is a great place to spend the summer months.
