2022 Horticulture Postgraduate Scholarships Now Open

Closing date: 10th December 2021

Every year Horticulture New Zealand (HortNZ) offers scholarships that are open to New Zealand students and trainees who have a special interest in the fruit or vegetable industry and are undergoing significant industry training or education.


For the 2022 study period, the following scholarships are available, with applications due by 11pm, 10th December 2021.


Postgraduate Scholarships

  • $10,000 HortNZ Postgraduate Scholarship

This Scholarship is available to people undertaking postgraduate study in horticulture or related fields. It is being offered to people undertaking higher study because innovation and tackling challenges head-on is critical to the industry’s future success.


  • $10,000 NZ Fruitgrowers’ Charitable Trust Postgraduate Scholarship

This Scholarship is available to people undertaking postgraduate study specifically related to the fruit industry.


Additionally, both scholarships will receive an all-inclusive professional development program including travel, accommodation, and registration to the 2022 Horticulture New Zealand Conference worth a value of $1500. Scholars are given workshops, professional development opportunities, networking invitations, and exposure to renowned leaders and speakers from the horticulture industry.



Requirements for application

  • Individual must be undergoing postgraduate study in horticulture or related fields in the year 2022.
  • Individual has the intent to support New Zealand fruit and vegetable industry.



Application process

  • You will be required to answer questions on GPA, provide supervisor and reference contacts, and write a 250–300-word essay on why your research will add value to the horticulture industry. Proof of GPA may be requested during the selection process.



  • Selected candidates will be announced on 20 December 2021.
  • Selected applicants will be required to do short video summarising their research as well as a written report.
