Description
We are seeking experienced kiwifruit Orchard Supervisors to join our orchard management and contractor maintenance team. Permanent role working on multiple orchards in the greater Te Puke region. This is a leadership role, supervising your own team. Working with our growers to achieve consistently high standards of workmanship, effectively and efficiently. You must be adaptable for our clients’ needs, have a positive attitude, and be a motivated team player who is always looking for better ways to improve our results.
As an Orchard Supervisor, you will be responsible for:
- Daily management, leading and training a team of orchard workers from various cultural backgrounds.
- Ensuring the quality of work is to the highest standard, ensure job timings and targets are met by your team.
- Ensuring all staff production targets for contract work are met and managed.
- Allocate daily work to team members as required – train staff on orchard tasks and grower expectations.
- Maintain communication with your team, other Supervisors, Growers and the leadership team.
- Ensuring Company Health & Safety policies and procedures are followed and implemented.
- Maintaining a positive and inclusive team, resolving issues to achieve a positive outcome.
- Conduct all aspects of vine maintenance work including thinning, pruning, picking/harvest, stringing etc.
- Achieving orchard production targets set out by BKC Managers and Growers.
- Monitoring the growth and health of crops, following all hygiene and PSA protocols.
- Managing administration tasks and record keeping, including staff timesheets, data entry.
- Mapping of orchards when required, recording total number of vines, bays and maintenance requirements in each orchard.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- At least 2 years’ experience in the kiwifruit industry, with excellent knowledge of kiwifruit orchard maintenance and harvest procedures.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Excellent planning and time management skills.
- The ability to communicate effectively to a multi-cultural team, growers and other supervisors/management.
- Excellent organisational skills to manage workflow and required documentation.
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to an ever-changing environment.
- Ability to effectively manage a team to conduct work to a high standard, and at good speed.
- The ability to work long hours/days (7 day a week operation with rostered days off).
- Strong work ethic, reliable and a positive attitude.
- NZ Drivers Licence and reliable transport (fuel allowance provided).
- Be flexible due to work demands.
- The ability to work with a strong team focus and lead autonomously.
- The ability to think on your feet, solve problems and rectify issues.
- Competent computer skills and accurate record keeping abilities.
