Description

Ko au te whenua, ko te whenua ko au ~ I am the whenua, the whenua is me

Are you a project manager and looking for an opportunity to give back in Te Tai Tokerau? You should join a ground-breaking project with a tight and dynamic group of Maori whenua/landowners/kaitiaki based in the most important town of Kaikohe (Te Pu o te Wheke).  This is a newly established Limited Liability Partnership, and the position will engage across a wide community including general title, whanau, employment & ahu whenua trust land blocks from grass roots up and across many engaged and specialised services and technical specialists.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone with proven project management experience, from a horticultural background (preferably with viticultural knowledge) and established relationships. This position is initially 6 months with long term opportunities of up to 2 years.  This role requires exceptional interpersonal, communication and engagement skills - someone that can manage multiple stakeholders and navigate complex situations.

The role is to manage the contracted deliverables connected to a government funded contract and will include engagement with many service providers and collaborators, regular and concise communications and interactions with an active Governance Team, managing the assessment of viability and the comprehensive planning and establishment of an important horticultural pilot in viticulture.

The heart of this project is based in Te Ao Maori, the collective is focused on and around whenua, whanaungatanga and Tino Rangatiratanga – our land, our whanau and our future.  Decisions are made by the Governance Team for creating productive whenua and prosperous whanau, through collaboration with the other whenua kaitiaki.  We operate from a space of empowerment and aroha, engaging project participants in matauranga, education and creating vocational opportunities while supporting diversification of investment, leadership, ownership and innovation.

The first stage of this project is progressing as we are completing land feasibility tests and will be moving onto market analysis to prove potential economic viability and options moving forward.

As the successful candidate you should have

  • A personal interest in actively supporting Maori lead economic development
  • Excellent communication, listening and problem navigation skills (written and oral)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Proven experience in collecting and presenting materials while considering and evaluating options and identifying opportunities for the benefit of communities
  • Experience in preparing and obtaining resource and building consents
  • A proven history of success in project management of horticultural development, viability and establishment of projects
  • Good technical ability and knowledge in horticultural projects
  • Proven experience and / or tertiary qualifications
