We strive to continuously improve performance across our business and as a result, we have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Horticulture Supervisor to join our team. This is a full-time permanent position based in Matapihi, Tauranga. Providing technical support to the Vine Team, Crop Manager and Regional Orchard Manager, this role includes monitoring and data collection, pest and disease management, quality control, fruit sampling,  general orchard work and covers all aspects of kiwifruit vine husbandry with a strong focus on quality and team supervision

You’ll have a passion for accuracy with the ability to collect and analyse orchard data to better inform decision making. You’ll be a team player with the ability to work independently or in a group, dependent on seasonal demands. You’ll have an eye for kiwifruit and the experience to identify factors that may compromise vine health and provide recommendations.

We are looking for:

  • Around 3 years of work experience in the horticulture industry
  • Experience working with Kiwifruit
  • Experience training and supervising teams
  • Strong communicator with the ability to engage with a wide-range of people
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Eye for detail and a passion for achieving exceptional results
  • A can-do attitude and ability to build positive rapport with fellow team members
  • Willingness up to work 7-days a week as the season dictates

You will be responsible for:

*Assisting in the development of new planting, fertilising and harvesting methods

*Gathering soil samples, arranging testing and planning fertilizer program in consultation with the regional manager

*Supervising seasonal teams to ensure work is carried out to an agreed specification and within the target time frame

*Undertaking pest disease monitoring to identify harmful micro-organisms (insects, parasites, fungi, bacteria, weeds) and assist in the development of control methods

*Ensuring all staff adhere to PSA protocols throughout seasonal activities

*Examining young plants and plant materials prior to planting/grafting, to ensure they are free pests/diseases that may jeopardise vine-health

*Monitoring and auditing control procedures to ensure compliance with Global GAP & GRASP standards

*Collecting and collating bud/fruit counts to inform thinning decisions and minimise quality issues

*Collecting and testing fruit samples for quality, size and purity to inform harvest decisions

*Carrying out general orchard tasks
